Suprise maps

A great long read article about suprise maps from UW Interactive Data Lab -

"Surprise Maps are driven by a statistic called Bayesian Surprise. Bayesian Surprise is a measurement initially developed by vision researchers to help identify the most salient (interesting) parts of an image or video. The key idea is that it is not the data by itself that drives interest, but how the data shifts our models of expectation."
